A little bit of our own history!

The family name of “Hobby” has been synonymous with the area of Milford on Sea for many generations, in fact almost 250 years. Chris, sometimes called Mr. Milford, has spent much of his life gathering, collating and recording as much information as he can find relating to the area, people, buildings and his family.

Paul, a relative newcomer to the area, moved to Milford from London around 30 years ago, bringing with him a strong interest in history added to a lifetime connected with innovative and emergent technologies. Therefore, as a Techie, Photographer and Videographer it was only natural to work with Chris, who is to technology what Julius Caesar is to Space Ships, and digitise the Hobby collection, as a result we developed the Digital History Lecture Programme.

As you might expect there are thousands of pieces of information of all shapes, materials and sizes in many different formats in a variety of local collections, libraries and archives. We have spent a lot of time identifying, scanning and recording some of the massive collection of Chris Hobbyassets, photographs, paintings and drawings that show how the people and area have developed over the years with the anecdotes and stories captured within those images. We have also recorded the verbal memories of local characters to be kept as Living History archives.

After many months of work we are now ready to introduce the Digital History Lecture series, each topic has been carefully scripted and prepared in a style that is easy to follow, informative, entertaining and ideally suited to social gatherings and residential groups, the first talks are;-

▪ A Georgian Guide to our local area
▪ Hurst Castle – The Silent Sentinel
▪ Milford on Sea – Then & Now
▪ Views from the Beach House

We are constantly working on various other subjects of local interest to be added to the listof Digital History Lectures ……….. when they are ready, these include; -

o Characters from the Area
o Indians in the New Forest
o Moments in Time
o Parks and Gardens
