Chris Hobby and Paul French have prepared a series of digitally illustrated historical talks to be delivered in person. Each talk focuses on locations, buildings and characters from the areas around Milford on Sea, Lymington and the New Forest. Each lecture lasts around 30-45 minutes and can be followed by a Q&A session. We can connect to your own TV or Multimedia system or, if easier for you, we can bring our own screen, amplification & projector.
For today's person travelling is the norm, yet back in the Georgian period only the wealthy could afford such luxuries. Yet those who travelled whether through their drawings or written words give us a vivid picture of our surrounding area around 1800
standing like a sentinel, commanding the western entrance to the Solent lies Hurst Castle. Learn about the necessity of its building and its role as a deterrent against aggression. How successful was it and did it fire a shot in anger? Learn of its supplementary use as a prison to a king and priest being its greatest role!
Trace the history of Milford from Domesday Book into the twentieth century. Learn about the history of certain of its buildings and the plans for a great development at the turn of the last century. And find out about one o† our former residents who was one of this nation's unsung heros, whose home was at Newlands.
Standing at what is now called The Beach House in Milford at the turn of the last century you would have seen three other prominent buildings. Learn about all four, the Beach House and the White House which have survived the passage of time and the Victoria Hotel and Rookcliff which have sadly succumbed to the demolishers axe.
Each presentation is delivered by Chris, who will also answer questions, Paul will be there in support to look after the technical bits! All talks are illustrated with around 50 PowerPoint slides and typically last from 30 – 45 Minutes.
We can connect to your communal TV using HDMI or a projection system. You may also have guessed that we can be fully self-contained and bring our own projector, screen and sound amplification if necessary to suit most venues – even outdoors!
Please Note: We do need to make a nominal charge for each of these talks towards the costs of delivery, these costs will be advised when we know the details of your requirement.
If you wish further information regarding booking the talks or to ask about available dates, times, suitable topics and venues please contact us by email with your details and we will get back to you at the first opportunity, phone calls are not always practical as we may be in the middle of a presentation!
